2016 Kangaroo Island Food and Wine Awards

Last Friday, 17th June 2016, the annual Kangaroo Island Food and Wine Awards were hosted at Mercure KI Lodge in American River. The awards are to honour and recognise some of the amazing experiences and produce that the island has to offer.

With only 100 guests lucky enough to receive an invite, attendees were treated to a delicious four-course dinner accompanied by medal-winning, locally produced wines. With just five trophies on the table, Ozone Hotel was nominated for Best Kangaroo Island Dining Experience, an award that was eventually won by Hannaford and Sachs who were praised for “…adding positively to the Kangaroo Island experience, good service and good pairing of local produce”.

Wine of the year was awarded to The Islander Estate and their Majestic Plough 2013. Eight wines were selected from the top finalist to be featured on the dinning menu for the night. Emu Ridge Eucalyptus were awarded for Farmgate or Cellar Door Experience.

Dudley Wines were the stand out of the evening, praised by the judges for “…an immersive tourism experience and excellent customer service”. Showcasing why they had earned two awards for Culinary Experience and Business Development.

The awards were hosted by the Kangaroo Island Food and Wine Association, supported by the Government of South Australia (PIRSA), and sponsored by Tourism Kangaroo Island, Tourism Optimisation Management Model (TOMM), Sealink, Kangaroo Island Industry and Brand Alliance, the Office of the Commissioner for Kangaroo Island, and the Department of State Development.
