Tatts Finke Desert Race 2016
The Tatts Finke Desert Race returns to the Alice Springs this June long weekend. The off road, multi terrain two-day race runs between Alice Springs and Aputula, or Finke community. Bikes, cars, buggies and quads will join the race through the desert country for Australia’s fastest and greatest desert race.
The race first began in 1976 as a ‘there and back’ challenge for local motorbike riders to race from Alice Springs to the Finke River and return. After the success of this initial event, the Finke Desert Race was born and it has been held annually on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend ever since.
The Tatts Finke Desert Race is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Northern Territory and has the reputation of being one of the most difficult off-road courses in one of the most remote places in the world.
